Friends for a Greater Centralia:

History:

Centralia has recently experienced growth through Centralia alumni investing in the community. A new high school, new buildings at Kaskaskia College, two tech centers, a state-of-the-art storage facility, and a new subdivision have recently been built in Centralia. St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital and several local industries have expanded. Due to the interest and involvement of Centralia Alumni, a pilot group was formed of local individuals (comprised of merchants, bankers, educators and industrial leaders) interested in the development of the community. Thus, Friends for a Greater Centralia was conceived and established to pursue initiatives for the growth and development of the Centralia area.

Mission Statement:

To provide opportunities for alumni of Centralia High School, living outside the area as well living close by, to actively participate in the economic development and improvement of the Greater Centralia Area, by identifying and attracting new business, industry, and investors to our community.

Goals:

  1. Identify business, industry and investment opportunities that will locate in the greater Centralia area.
  2. Establish active Centralia resident groups for involvement in overall improvement to the economical development of the greater Centralia area.

Objectives:

  1. Develop a database of Centralia High School graduates.
  2. Seek information and participation from CHS alumni for the expansion and development of the Centralia area economic base.
  3. Establish a mentoring task force to further develop leads gained from the CHS alumni.
  4. Develop funding sources for the committee’s actions.
  5. Coordinate efforts with existing economic development agencies and the City of Centralia.
  6. Establish opportunities and activities that volunteers can participate in to advance community and economic development.
